The Council of Grinchs

WATCH THE GRINCH'S

1 comment:

  1. Matt Harrington I have asked the City Clerk in Aurora to place myself on tonight schedule to address the City Council on the cancellation of our Holiday festivals held at Phillips Park.
I hope the Grinch's will hear our pleas to save our holidays and to keep the Heart and soul alive within our community.

Chad Walz its not about heart and soul Matt. its about government spending. If they don't have the money they shouldn't spend it. We did it last year where I live in Downers Grove. Its sad they have to do it, but if it means that city services aren't cut then that's what they have to do. people fought is hard here too. Its really not as big a deal as you think. You just need to find private sponsors and donors to keep the events alive.

I hear you, but we do have the funds. The Aldermen have over 1.2 million in their discretionary accounts as reported by the Beacon News on the July 21st 2010. the cost of this festivals was around 37,000 the 3rd ward alderman has 800,000... that she has not used in years.

And just a few weeks ago we approved 450,000 for a non for profit to build a halfway house and the 6th ward alderman spent 106,000 to buy a house within his ward to be torn down. I agree that we can get sponsors, I would be more then happy to help. This not just a festival that cost us money.

It is a small economic driver to our community, it bring in people from the surrounding cities whom spend money at our local business as well as creates a scene of pride for Aurora.

We are the second largest city in Illinois but we want to continue the small town feel of our community.

    Sincerely
